E-learning Innovations Team Profiles

ChemNet

RTO:
Smith & Georg Pty Ltd
Project category:
Empowering Learners
Industry area:
Agrifood
Learner group(s):
Geographically isolated
State/territory:
SA
Project Year:
2009
The problem/opportunity being addressed:

Some participants find it difficult to attend a face-to-face session because either: (1) they are in remote areas and have no courses within reasonable distance, (2) they must travel long distances to attend a course, or (3) courses are held at times when they are busy on the farm.
The learners/clients and how they will benefit:

Two groups will be targeted in the project: 1. ChemCert course facilitators and managers. They will be taught how to facilitate the course online, and will have input into the course structure and content. They will benefit by gaining the skills and confidence to facilitate the online course. 2. ChemCert course participants. These will be mostly primary producers and people in related industries who use chemicals in their workplace. They will benefit by being able to complete the course at home, in their own time; but with both structured and informal support from trained facilitators
How the training is currently delivered:

Currently the majority of participants in the ChemCert training program attend face-to-face training sessions, which are held periodically in country. Some complete the program by a Home-study option or by RPL.
How the innovation will change current delivery:

Informal market research suggests there is a demand for the e-learning option. it is anticipated that by 2014, at least 20% of ChemCert course participants will complete the course online.
