The problem/opportunity being addressed:

Currently there are few courses for translators in Australia and all are based in the capital cities. Therefore there are many people from regional areas who cannot access training. Most RTO's are only able to offer translation in a very limited number of languages due to either available skilled trainers or the number of eligible applicants in their area. In addition to the domestic market, there is also a strong international unmet market demand for translation training. This project will address the above by developing generic online content initially and developing the methodology to customise this unit to different languages. The online component will enable broad sourcing of both students and facilitators from Australia and overseas.
The learners/clients and how they will benefit:

The learners are: -face to face students enrolled in current courses: they benefit by having access to translation units in various languages -Student from culturally diverse backgrounds who do not have access due to living in regional areas -Translators who wish to undertake PD -Applicants to the industry accreditation system who need training before their industry assessment. -Students who work full time or shift work who are not able to committ to face to face training. -Students who wish to train in translation in a language where there are no skilled facilitators in that particular area. (typically new and emerging languages) All these groups will benefit by having access to training and access to skilled professional facilitators in their particular language group.
How the training is currently delivered:

This training is currently deliveres face to face in two languages. Have been unable to increase the number of languages on offer due to the reasons stated above. .
How the innovation will change current delivery:

Training will be available in a wider range of languages, not limited to the number of students available in one city and not limited to the skilled staff available in any one place. This means that we will be able to offer courses which meet need rather than be limited to financially/skill viable courses.
