The problem/opportunity being addressed:
The project will involve collaborative learning opportunities for remote Australian School Based Apprentices undertaking their learning using flexible delivery methods. The current problem is progressing learners from traditional school based learning methodoligies to independent learners. The challenge is to provide learning opportunities which reflect a broad industry perspective relevant beyond the confines of small, often family orientated work placement.
The learners/clients and how they will benefit:
ASBA trainees studying Certificate III in Agriculture. A minimum of 3 trainees will be involved. Trainees will benefit from social networking opportunities and modified learning resources/approaches which will allow for collaborate learning opportunities from remote locations. |
How the training is currently delivered:
Learning has previously been undertaken using print based materials, training and assessment by traditional structured learning plan. Scheduled visits by a specialist tutor and assessor restrict interaction with other trainees which can provide broader industry perspective, learning and networking opportunities. |
How the innovation will change current delivery:
The methods developed during the project will include e-learning, asynchronous communications, social networking and visits by a specialist tutor and assessor and their training coordinator. The project will also cover the design of a resource for an induction kit, and the Chemical User competencies. These innovations are specific for our target group, and are designed to facilitate their growth from pedagogic learners to independant androgogical learners. |
