The problem/opportunity being addressed:
This initiative is important to enable all learners to achieve the competencies in their training programs. Many of our learners are struggling with completing their training and require additional support in the area of learning and study skills. This can be due to low levels of literacy and numeracy, English language skills or unfamiliarity with the types of learning and assessment tasks they are required to undertake in their VET course. We currently provide Learning Support in a face-to-face mode and, in this project, we will extend and expand the Learning Support program to deliver it online. |
The learners/clients and how they will benefit:
This initiative will benefit any learner at CIT who requires support for their learning by providing improved and expanded access to Learning Support services. It will particularly benefit learners studying in Flexible Learning mode and mature age learners studying part-time while working and also learners unable to attend the Drop-In Learning Support centres due to location, time, and/or a variety of other reasons. Apprentices and trainees who may only be attending classes occasionally, but need help outside these times, may also find online Learning Support easier to access.
Learners will have improved access to Learning Support reference resources as well as individualised Learning Support ‘live’ via a virtual classroom, or via video feedback or e-mail. |
How the training is currently delivered:
CIT Vocational College currently operate a Drop-In Learning Support program on each of our larger campuses (Bruce, Reid and Southside) which provides individual support for students who access the program via individual consultations with Learning Support teachers. |
How the innovation will change current delivery:
We would like to expand and extend our Learning Support program to deliver it online and thus make it accessible for all CIT learners, especially those currently unable to attend Learning Support services on campus. This program will include online reference resources in a variety of formats, and individual Learning Support via e-mail, live virtual classroom consultations, ‘live’ video feedback, or audio voice messaging.
